SX2000 Heat Exchanger — ITT Standard / Standard Xchange Steel-Shell Shell & Tube

The current Standard Xchange steel-shell series — and the drop-in replacement for many legacy BCF units.

If the nameplate on your unit reads SX2000, you're looking at the steel-shell line in the ITT Standard / Standard Xchange fixed-tubesheet family: a carbon steel shell with a copper tube bundle, built for general industrial duty where a brass shell isn't required. Compared with the brass-shell BCF, the steel shell costs less per square foot at larger sizes.

Whether you need a drop-in replacement, a tube bundle only, or help sizing a new unit, everything starts with that nameplate — and a quote takes about two minutes.

SX2000 construction and specifications

These are the standard datasheet values for the SX2000 / SX2000C line. The model code on your nameplate fixes the exact shell diameter, tube length, and pass count within these ranges.

One nameplate note: if your unit was built before 2012, it may read ITT Standard instead of Standard Xchange. Same product line, same Cheektowaga, NY factory — the brand moved to Xylem in ITT's 2011 split and took the Standard Xchange name in 2012, and your older model number still crosses to current production.

How to read an SX2000 model code

SX2000 part numbers follow a fixed five-field pattern — for example 5-230-04-024-001 is a 4″ shell, 24″ tube length, single-pass, narrow-baffle unit. The 230 field marks the steel-shell SX2000 (versus 030 for the brass BCF and 160 for the stainless SSCF); the size and configuration fields read the same across the family:

SX2000 heat exchanger applications

The SX2000 covers liquid-to-liquid duty across general plant service:

  • Hydraulic power unit (HPU) oil cooling
  • Lube oil systems
  • Air compressor intercooling and aftercooling
  • Water-glycol cooling
  • General plant utility duty with non-corrosive fluids

Running something corrosive on either side? A steel shell isn't the right call for every service — see the comparison below before you order.

SX2000 vs BCF: steel shell or brass shell?

Both are straight-tube, fixed-tubesheet designs with copper tubes, and the factory rates both families the same: 300 psi shell side, 150 psi tube side, 300°F. The practical difference is the shell material:

  • BCF (brass shell) — resists waterside corrosion a bit better in some services
  • SX2000 (steel shell) — costs less at size

For genuinely corrosive duty, step up to the SSCF stainless series. Not sure which fits your service? Send your operating conditions and you'll get a straight model recommendation — not a catalog to decode.

Replacing an SX2000 — or an older ITT Standard steel-shell unit

Many older ITT Standard steel-shell models cross directly to current SX2000 production. To get your exact match:

  1. Find the model and serial number on your nameplate — a phone photo works
  2. Send it with a quote request or call (770) 345-0010
  3. You'll get the cross-reference, stock status, and pricing for your unit

If the line is down, say so — replacement options get checked against what can ship soonest.

SX2000 tube bundles, gaskets, and parts

A failed bundle doesn't always mean a new exchanger. If the shell is still sound, a replacement tube bundle may be all you need. Tube bundles, gaskets, and other components for your unit are on the parts page — include the nameplate model so the parts match your pass configuration.

SX2000 sizing and selection help

New application, changed flow rates, or a unit that never quite kept up? Send your duty conditions and you'll get a sized SX2000 selection — or an honest recommendation to use a different series if that's what your service calls for. Helpful to include:

  • Flow rates and fluids on each side
  • Inlet and outlet temperatures
  • Allowable pressure drop, if known

Southgate Process Equipment has sized and supplied these units as an authorized Standard Xchange distributor for more than 25 years — an independent distributor, not ITT Inc. or Xylem.
