Brazed plate
BrazePak brazed plate heat exchangers
Copper- or nickel-brazed 316 stainless plate exchangers for oil cooling, water-to-water, and refrigeration.
BrazePak is the brazed plate line from the ITT Standard / Standard Xchange family: corrugated 316 stainless steel plates vacuum-brazed with copper — or nickel for ammonia and copper-sensitive fluids — into a single sealed, gasket-free unit. For clean liquid-to-liquid duty, a BrazePak transfers the same heat as a shell & tube several times its size, at a fraction of the weight and cost. If your nameplate reads BrazePak, you have a direct path to the current equivalent below.
Why a brazed plate unit wins on clean duty
When your fluids are clean, a brazed plate exchanger is hard to beat on size, efficiency, and cost. Here is what you get:
- Corrugated 316 stainless plates, vacuum-brazed with copper or nickel into one integral piece
- No gaskets, no tightening bolts, no parts to replace — a fully sealed unit
- Compact footprint — on single-phase liquid-to-liquid duty, units can be mounted in any convenient orientation, freeing up plant floor and skid space; refrigerant and other two-phase duties mount vertically per the factory installation manual
- High design pressures and temperatures relative to gasketed plate units
- High heat-transfer coefficients from the corrugated plate pattern, so the unit runs smaller for the same duty

Where a BrazePak is the right fit
BrazePak units handle a wide range of clean-fluid duties:
- Hydraulic and lube oil cooling — compact coolers for power units and gearboxes
- Water-to-water heat recovery and free-cooling loops
- Domestic hot water and boiler isolation
- Refrigeration — evaporators and condensers, with nickel brazing for ammonia
- Deionized and RO water systems — nickel-brazed, since copper brazing isn't suited to copper-sensitive fluids
One caution worth flagging early: because a brazed unit can't be opened, it isn't the right choice for fouling-prone or particulate-laden streams. If your fluid tends to scale or carries solids, a Plateflow gasketed unit (openable and cleanable) or a shell & tube exchanger will serve you better. Not sure which way to go? Send your duty conditions and get a straight recommendation.
Replacing an ITT Standard BrazePak
Good news for legacy units: BrazePak carried through the brand change, so an older ITT Standard unit crosses directly to current production. To match yours, all it takes is three things off the label:
- Plate count
- Size designation
- Connection type and size
Send those — or just a photo of the nameplate — and you get a quote for the current drop-in equivalent, checked against stock. Sizing a new application instead? Send your fluids, flows, temperatures in and out, and allowable pressure drop, and you get a configured recommendation rather than a guess.

BrazePak vs. Plateflow: which plate exchanger fits
Both are plate exchangers, but they solve different problems:
- BrazePak (brazed): sealed, lowest cost per duty, smallest footprint — built for clean fluids that won't foul.
- Plateflow (gasketed): openable, cleanable, and expandable — the better call for fouling-prone fluids or duties that may change over time.
Pick brazed when the fluid is clean and the duty is fixed; pick gasketed when you need to open it up, clean it, or add plates later. Still weighing it? Tell us your application and you get a recommendation matched to your fluids and duty.
